Welcome new readers! In this newsletter I share resources to help you plan a fun-filled, profitable auction.

Friend, I’ve got a hectic week so gotta keep this short.

First, a client sent me this job announcement for a Special Events Manager in the D.C. area. Details, including salary range, are in the ad.

I've not worked for The Arc, but I can tell you they have a well-organized gala.

Second, this past weekend was the 4th time I worked with late night host Seth Meyers on Martha's Vineyard island. I rarely get recordings of the auctions I work, but in this case, the client got me the .mp4 really fast.

Because I received it so quickly, I was able to include a snippet from the fundraiser into today's video.

(Seth's last joke might not make sense unless you also know this: prior to Seth offering his donation, a donation from Jake Gyllenhaal sold for $55,000.)

At dinner after the event, I asked the Gala Chair how she approaches asking people for donations. If you're nervous about asking, you may pick up some pointers in her approach.

I'm headed to Florida soon, and then back to Martha's Vineyard to raise money for a cause close to my heart -- hospice. No slow dog-days of summer for me this year, unfortunately.

From a Gala Chair: A perspective that makes asking easier

Some people are intimidated about asking for items for their auction.

In today’s video, you will hear some advice from a Gala Chair with whom I ate dinner this past weekend.

Here’s the video.
